So, my motor is almost done and hopefully it will function well. : ) My dad is going to build a 390 for his 67' at some point, so we'll have his original 352 as an extra. I was kind of toying with the idea/dreaming of building a budget FE. As much porting/polishing, weight reduction, and general improvement as I/we can do ourselves. The basic idea will be to build a screaming 352 for cheap. Whether it's a good, much less feasible idea or not remains to be seen - for now I am just dreaming.
Why do I bother telling you guys? I was hoping you could provide some suggestions as to what kind of vehicle would be a good candidate for this. I am in the southwest, so very few cars have rust problems or the like. Would a motorless Fairlane be easy to find? Mustang/Cougar is probably out, but who knows. What do ya'll think?
try a ford maverick, Mercury comet, or Falcon, Back in the late 60"s early 70"s the Ford guys use to use these cars to contend with the small block chevy vegas, they are not to heavy, and with the 352 should give you a good cid/wieght ratio. it should lay it down and it all depends on what you want the vehicle to do. Hope this helps, I really told my age on this one.
not to my knowledge, I had a 65 but it had a 6 cyl, and I later put a 289 in it, I believe they came with 289's on special order, the only problem with the falcon is the amount of tire you can put in the rear, they had really narrow rear wheel wells, unless you would plan on tubbing the rear, but they are super light cars. shrike
i dont think falcons came with FE's, most had inline 6's, some had 260 V8's and a few later ones had 289 V8's. i dont know how hard it would be to cram a FE in a falcon, im sure it would take some modifacation, but if you did it would go like he**, there not that big of cars compared to the fairlane and galaxie.
Fairlane would be the easy choice as those were available with the FE already. The others are a snug fit between the shock towers, but there's always the MII independent suspension upgrade to take care of that
