Hey Cutts can you swap out the disks then and adapt them to the older 10.25's? I can't find any kits for this upgrade. Sorry for my ignorance but why won't the 10.50 work then for his truck?

Whats wrong with the Dana 70? Stronger than the Sterling 10.25, albeit not by much. What year of an F-150 are we talking about anyhow? Disk brakes are the best, of course.

If you can afford arbs front and rear than that is indeed the hot ticket. I just swapped mine from auto to stick, and it was a pita. But thats only because I was sticking a 4-speed behind a 460 in a '73 4x4...a configuration that never existed.

Does the Dana 70 offer discs for the rear? How about the speed sensor ring? I would guess they make a ARB also for this axle? This is a 94 F150, so is this set up a possibility? On the tranny issue, I dunno about the conversion, I'm still thinking about that or having brianstruckstop build a new E4OD. Any ideas how much more HP/TQ you get to the ground with a maunual tranny vs. auto?

I can't think of any 70s that came with the disk brakes stock, but its an easy and fairly cheap swap to disks. Yea, arb makes them for the D70. Not for the 80 though, but I don't really see much reason to run the 80 over the 70 anyways. I don't think any have the speed sensor ring, but I could be wrong. I don't recall of the top of my head right now...I can't even remember when they stopped using the D70s. Autos soak up a good bit of hp over a stick, but since its a percentage of what your engine puts out to begin with it depends on the state of your engine. Also depends on how tight your tranny is and the quality of your tq converter. The E40D isn't as much of a hog as my C-6 was, in my case I gained @75 hp switching to the stick. Thats significant. Also allows for more breakage

75 HP is alot to gain. I might check into the swap to a manual. I'll have to research it and see how much $$ and work it'll be. Thanks for the info pro, 95 and fish.

Just remember, thats because I generate allot of hp and the c-6 is the biggest auto hog of them all. Your gains might be closer to 35-40hp (just an off the cuff guess). A well set up auto is pretty nice.

Also remember auto's have advantages and disadvantages. If your looking for a good trail rig I think an auto with a good cooler would be better because you don't have a clutch to worry about when traversing steep hills. But then again rowing through the gears is fun as well! Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

Just more food for thought Petersons 4 Wheel and Offroad did a conversion on auto tranny where they converted it to a stick and you would shift without the clutch and you can stick it in a gear and keep it there without the slush box. It shifted really hard though, but was cool as hell!

well, I guess a well built E4OD with the Precision Industries Triple Clutch Torque Converter might do OK for me, we'll have to see. Precision Industries likes to brag alot about folks getting better time slips with their converters. The triple disc is supposed to be the bomb for all around and towing too. I'll find out soon. The rotating mass has been balance in my 393 and next week the truck itself starts coming apart to put in the new engine. The 408 was toast from several different issues, so we remade her into a 393 with a all forged lower end. I'll probably end up with a 200 HP shop of juice on it after its broken in good, so I'll find out pretty quick I imagine how good the other E4OD is that I already have.
