Expedition fans,
I am in dire need of help!!! I have a 99 with 5.4. engine and 58,000 miles on her. Truck has gibson dual cat bat exhaust and K&N filter system. Tires are BFG 17" TKO's and shocks are Procomp 3000 . Ride is really stiff but I love this truck....anyway.... My problem is that as of the last week or so when I hit a series of bumps or rough road the engine stalls for a split second and then comes back up if I am accelerating. If I am coasting she stalls out all together. Some times the bumps are not that severe other times it has to bounce quite a bit. Whats the deal??? Dealer says there are no codes in memory and he can't figure out whats wrong.
Shocks and tires have been on about 5 months. The only thing I have done in the past month is add a can of injector cleaner about two tank fulls ago.
Anybody ever heard of this and where would be a good place to start looking for the root of this problem?
Thanks,
Joe
Sounds like some sort of electrical issue although I wouldn't even know where to start troubleshooting. Hopefully one of our techs will be by soon with options.
I had this happen once when I had to replace the ECM (computer). The dealer's mechanic bent a few prongs in the harness, including one which did not allow it to give a code. Loose or corroded contacts there might be worth looking at.
A randomly sticky IAC valve might concievably act that way (letting off the gas for a bump or coasting, but should throw a code, unless it doesn't last long enough to do that.
I would try disconnecting, cleaning, and then reconnecting alectrical connectors. Begin with PCM, and continue with ignition and fuel injection connectors.
Thanks for the input. Dealer wants the truck back tommorow and wants to keep it a few days($$$$ ouch! ) His techs drove it and couldn't get the engine to skip but when I got there I took the mechanic for a ride and was able to make it happen 2imagine that!) needless to say this is going to be an expensive proposition with little or no results. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks again
Joe
one thing you might want to do is to take the dealer mechanic for ride and have him bring the diag. tester with him, my wife had a problem that didn't show up until they did this, the code came up while they were driving and they were able to fix the problem
