I know the pictures aren't so hot . I bought this axle this weekend(d60) out of a 79' truck and this was inside. It looks like the gears have a d70 stamp on them (if that makes a difference) and a rotational count shows that they are the 3.73's shown on the tag. Both axles turn the same way at the same time so it is a locker but I have never seen anything that looks like this. There is no name stamped on it but it does have a series of numbers which have not helped me yet as I have looked it up. They are 5270A z1494x. Can you help?
That looks like a Dana Powr-Lok, which is a limited slip that came in Dana 30's and 70's. If this is a rear axle from a dually truck, that would explain the '70' you saw stamped on the gears. If I remember correctly, the ring gear size on a Dana 60 is about 9.75" and on a 70 it's around 10.50". On a 30 I think it's just under 8".
A Dana 60 or 44 would have a Trac-Lok diff which has only 2 side gears and a big rectangular hole in each side of it exposing the gears inside and the nose of it doesn't bolt on with 8 bolts like the one in your pic.
Yes, you are right, Precision Gear makes the Power-Lok aftermarket, assumably under liscense by Dana, for Dana 60 and 44 axles. Dana put it in model 30 and 70 axles as original equip.
