351w transmission question
I have an 1986 F-150 4x2 ex-tended cab. Putting 2yr rebuilt 351w, 40 thousands over bored, pushing 350hp easy. Would I be stupid to put an overdrive transmission out of an 1982 302 in it? I have used a FMX and a C6 with this engine. I have had plenty of torque, but no speed.

would the 89 trans be a AOD or a E4OD, without modifications the AOD isn't known for strength while the E4OD is much stronger and as long as you stay out of o/d when towing they seem to last but cost 2 1/2 times as much to fix.

the e4od wont work because it is controled by the ecu so you would need to swap over a lot of electrical crap. The AOD when built properly will handle what your pushing. you can get a nice one built for around $1200-1500.

Hey Kemical any preference on tranny places to recommend? How about brianstruckshop.com or bullydog.com, had any experience with these guys? they seem to have a pretty good reputation, maybe fordtruckman can check with them on his AOD.

Tallk to the guy who will be going through the AOD. AODs prior to about 1987 had oiling problems in the rear part of the trans. They were upgraded after that. If the specific trans you have has not been upgraded, find out what the new(used) pieces from a later model would cost. AODs are really neat because the RPM reduction when you go into OD is significant-like about one third.
