Question side view mirrors

Hello

I have a problem getting my aerostar into my garage, the problem is that the garage door is to narrow. Before I start some huge project like rebuilding the garage door opening, I was wonderring if anywoon knows if there is mirrors to buy for the aerostar that retrackts, with those I could just fold-in the side view mirrors and that way get into the garage.(there is only about half a inch missing for the car to get in) If there was no such mirrors made for the aerostar, is there any other sideview mirrors that would fit the aerostar?
Greatful for any ideas that you might have.

Thank you

What year is your van? My 1990 XLT wagon came with remote controlled mirrors that are mounted in housings that can foldinward for just such purposes. I guess you might have a "van" instead of a "wagon", where you have real truck mirrors? It might be possible for you to find the mirrors that fold from a salvage yard, and install them on your van. I think the doors were the same on all years, so it should work.

My 1995 remote mirrors fold in easily, so, as the previous person suggested, look for that and just pull in the driver's side when entering the garage.

What you might want to do is line up the van to the garage and then place/set up a small speed on the outside of the right front tire. That way if you feel the bump, you know you are going to hit the garage and you can back up and try again. Something low and with a smooth curve so you do not damage the tire sidewall.

My '93 Aerostar is the most basic model, but the mirror on both sides can be folded rearward manually. Check again, you can fold it by pulling the outer edge of the mirror toward the rear of the van. It will fold flat.

i didn't know mine could do that (fold in) till i smacked them against a post at a drive thru!! it snapped back out with a little persuasion. i thought i had trashed it when it happened!! maybe yours can too. mine are black plastic remote ones. check yours out their is a seam running around the post as it extends outward the the mirror. thats were it folds. rick 91 aerostar xl. ext

The vans have no rear seats, some don't have side windows behind the driver, unless it's a window van, they have no inner body panels, they may have rubber mats instead of carpeting, and they have two half doors in the rear that open side ways instead of the single lift-up hatch. I'm not sure, but they may come with side view mirrors mounted on a metal frame, like trucks, that stick out pretty far.

The mirrors I have are black plastic things that are bolted to the lower front corner of the window on the door. The main body of the mirror assembly clicks into position for normal viewing, but can be pulled back toward the door to reduce the overall width of the car.
