1982 EEC III loses spark
I have a Haynes manual, but it only covers the EECII and EECIV, because it says "The EECIII was not used much and won't be covered in this manual..". SO, I need some tips on what to measure and what the measurements should be. What codes can be read and how to read them. The truck wont run long enough to bring it in to a shop.
Are any measurement the same as the EECII?
The module was replaced because the truck runs anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes and then quits. We take one of the plug wires, put it on extra spark plug and it has no spark. Wait about 30 seconds, then start it again, fine until it dies again. Same with the new module. Could it be the computer?
I have a remote ignition/starter box. I hooked this up figuring I'd be by passing the ignition switch and resistor wire. It worked, but the spark still disappears.
This truck had a variable venturi carb which flooded the truck constantly and a standard two barrel was put in its place.

The CPS is clamped under the pulse ring behind the harmonic balancer. It's wires run up the front of the engine between the water pump and the alternator and then plug into the EEC wiring harness. There is an evap solenoid on the same conector. So for the CPS, test the Gray and Dark-Blue wires only.
The CPS should test 100-640 ohms. If it reads 'open circuit', it needs to be replaced. Test the CPS both before and after the engine quits. Wriggle the lead wires a bit to make sure that a frayed wire is not giving intermitent contact.
If you replace the CPS, gap it .075" between the tip of the lobes on the pulse ring.
(BTW, I am assuming that it ran okay after the standard 2 BBL carb was installed and now this is a new problem?)
