Exclamation i need engine id help quick!

im going to test drive a truck today, im not sure what year it is, but i know that it is between an 82 and an 86. it is an f250 4x4. the guy selling it doesnt know much about the truck, and he thinks the motor is a 302. but i didnt think that the 302 was available in a 250 4x4. i could be wrong though, as i know more about 70's fords. how can i find out what motor it is? and how can i tell the difference between a 351w 4v and a 351w 2v? is it just a 4bbl carb as opposed to a 2bbl? or are the heads different? i dont know anything about the windsors.

In the EFI trucks, the size of the engine is cast into the top of the plenum, clearly visible. 302's are "5.0" and 351's are "5.8".

its an efi truck, but there is nothing that says what it is, just says "Electronic Fuel Injection" so either its a v8 that ford was embarrassed of, or its an older one. the truck is either an 85 or 86. i **think** its a windsor, but its hard to tell and it could be a 302. the only concern about the motor, other than which one it is, is that when its in park if i floor it i hear a loud rapping, not an internal rap, more like something outside of the motor is not working properly.

Hm. Probably a 302, then. The VIN number will tell you, but you can also refer to this post: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=238848

302's got EFI in 85, 351's got EFI in 87.

Correct, it is a 302. I have the same engine in my truck. It says Ford Electronic Fuel Injection on top as well.
