PATPAULj, not sure if you are staying with the rack and pinion, or going with the power steering conversion. Don't know if there are any changes in later model steering boxes if stick w/ rack and pinion.

I posted the topic on converting to power steering several months back. If swapping for p/s then need to deal with the steering column. You can either have existing column shortened, or obtain the later model column and modify the column mounting bracket. I had 4 speed and only required coming up with shorter steering shaft. The third option is going with the Bendix power steering box which has the same dimensions as the standard rack and pinion. There are some drawbacks with the Bendix. I posted the question under 'bendix p/s' and received lot of info.

If considering swapping for p/s, stronly suggest going to 'search' and select the advanced search . Then go to the search by member section which will narrow the search to the 61-66 ford truck forum. There were a number of members who were helpful, but would narrow down to couple of members. The 2 that come to mind are banjopicker66, and FORDBOYpete. Scroll down the results and pick out the related topics.

Certain other more knowledgeable members will be providing additional suggestions and info.

good luck

If you are also considering power brake swap there is an article in the FTE 'Tech section' . In addition, if you run search in google, or yahoo 'f100disc' it will eventually take you to stick 60's web site where there is a good article on disc conversion. Suggest bookmark the slick 60's site. Note, need to go down to the first reply by got65emblems because his initial web site referral was incorrect. Unfortunalely, computer illiterate or would have tried to post the link to the article in this thread. Likely another member will be able to post the link to the article.

Anyhow, had an urge to chime in, so good luck.

Fat, Go ahead with everything as planned, since the 429 and 460 are the same on the outside, you will need 460 perches from a 79 or earlier and everything will bolt right up.

Your swap sounds like an easy one. I,m not into big blocks, but a few of my buds are. The only problem I've known them to have with the power steering was mainly heat related, which seems to be a common thing with the big block engines combined with our oven like weather in West Texas.
Its really not anything mechanical, the steering box and pump soaks up alot of heat as well as making its own heat. The easiest fix for this problem is to use a large trans cooler plumbed into the low pressure side of the pump, this should prevent any future problems. Be sure to locate the cooler where air can flow over it.
