Okay....so some bozo used a screwdriver to break into the truck nite before last used the key door lock as method of entry. It still is functional, but is depressed about 1/2 inch. My question is will the lock be hard to replace, taking the door panel off, and can it be rekeyed to the same as the ignition and other door key. It's a '97 F150. Thanks
Sorry to hear that, I've been there too. The handle may need to be replaced if it is broken, but the lock cylinder is probably still good. If you have the painted door handles you can get them at the dealer already painted for about $35. If its just the black handle, you can get one at a junk yard for less. The lock cylinder is just held in place with a U shaped clip. I managed to fix mine with some QuikSteel (like JB weld but dries alot faster). If you do need a new cylinder, they are about $50 at the dealer, plus whatever the locksmith charges to put it together and match it up to your key. Good luck, if you got any more ??, just ask
Thanks for the info, it's a painted one and still works, just the cylinder was trashed.....will try the JB route first.......Thanks
