What motor will fit?

I have a 1999 F150 4x4 extended cab. My motor is about worn out. It came with the 5.4 liter Triton. I have been told this type motor is referred to as a "throw away motor". It can't be reworked since the cylinder walls don't have enough meat left on them for any changes. Any truth to this? I would like to replace the motor in the truck with something bigger. What will fit? There ain't a whole lotta room in the engine compartment and the triton appears to be about as big a motor you can put in. Any suggestions on motor type will be appreciated. By the way, can you not buy.... say for example and Edelbrock crate motor in the performance series and put something like this back in?

Thanks,

If you want something that will bolt in easily the 5.4 is your only choice.
If money and time are no object you can probably put in whatever you like but it wont be easy.
I've heard of 5.4s being bored out but I'm not sure how much. Ask a good machine shop about it.

The 5.4 can inded be rebuilt, though a .020" ovwerbore is max.

What you really need is the engine and trans I took out of my '02 at 11,000 miles when I put in the "L" motor.
