2002 Turbo Excursion
I test drove a 2002 TDEXC yesterday, liked it alot. One thing I noticed was when the salesman brought it up for the test drive I walked around it while in was Idling. I could hear the Turbo screaming out the tail pipe. It sounded like a jet engine warming up. This was not the normal engine noise it sounded like the wastegate was stuck open. Is this part of the normal warm up on these engines. The noise was gone when we returned from the test drive.Thanks Lilguy

The Power Stroke has a "back pressure" device to aid in fast warm ups. It works similar to a Jake Brake in that it closes off the exiting exhaust coming out the turbo thereby causing the engine to develope heat more quickly. When the back pressure device is on, as it would be on a cold engine, it will sound like a giant air compressor with a leak. As the engine warms up, it opens up relieving some of the pressure, until it is fully open.

FW-16? or 15? 8 to 10 ounces added to the radiator every 15,000 miles. The description I got was; when the piston goes up, the walls of the cyl move in a little bit but very fast causing a low pressure area. This low psi allows the coolent to flash into it's gasious state. Then the piston starts it's down stroke and the cyl wall moves back out, very quickly and the gas turns back into a liquid. This transformation causes a very high pressure jet of water to impact the cyl wall. After some time 100,000 miles or so, you get pin holes in the cylinders. (not fixable / new engine)$$$

oh yea; oil's
the important thing is; on the back of the bottle is a list of specs. if the oil you want doesn't have several groups of letters starting with a C DONT USE IT!

you can use syn thetic oil but it must be approved for diesel engines.
The crankcase does hold 3.5 gallons of the stuff though, I use shell rotella 15/40 and buy it by the 5 gallon bucket for around $30
