I agree with 04superduty, that is a lot of weight considering your 3.08 gear ratio. If you plan on keeping the truck for a while you should consider swapping gears. If not, now is the time to trade.
The 2004 F150 is beefed up compared to the previous generation. In fact, with the same gears and engine, the F150 has a higher tow capacity than the F250, which I believe is attributed to less chassis weight being attached to the same frame. Personally, I think your truck will tow that load fine unless you need highway speeds or go on long distances...the concern is long term wear on bearings, etc, and of course stopping. Any 8 cylinder version of the 2004 models will be more than adequate if a new truck is an option.
Remember with a camper you may think the extra stuff you put in doesnt adds much weight but you would be suprised. Add water, food, clothes, popane, and it could easly be an extra 1000 lbs. Go to a scale before your trip and find out how much it really weights and then go for a drive to see how it tows. You may have to move things around to get the weight distribution right. hope that helps. And yes the new f 150 will handle it, but a 250 isnt much more and in the future you might need the extra capacity.
Doulble Thanks Guys . Can't afford the F250 but have already looked at the F150. I believe its time for a trade. Thanks for all the post. I really enjoy this site.
