Have a 2003 Explorer XLT. Looked under the hood this evening and had the evil red dot showing on the battery. Only put 4500 or so miles on the vehicle so far.
Still starts ok so I put the charger on it for 1 hour. After that just stayed at about 6 amps out of 10 and didn't move. So I disconnected the charger.
Have any of you had a battery go bad that quick. I know it's possible, but that's pretty soon to me. Will be taking it in tomorrow, only bought the vehicle about 8 months ago so I hope a cell tests bad and I get a new battery.
Went through the same problem with my 2002 F150. I went through 2 batteries in 6 months. Found that the door switch was hanging up or not making contact. It seems to be a problem with a lot of the Fords. Spray some contact cleaner or wd-40 down around your door latch to clean it out. That has worked on most of the ones I know. When the door switch hangs up it will not let your vehicle go into sleep mode properly and thus drain your battery rather quickly. You could have another problem but this is the most common one with the Fords. Good Luck
