Where is Low Pressure Switch?

Hello -
I'm diagnosing an a/c compressor problem and have read alot on here about it. My symptoms are that the compressor will cycle on for a second, then off for a while, then back on. I've checked the pressure on the low side, the compressor kicks on when it reaches about 43psi, it runs for a second then immediately drops to below 25psi and kicks off. The pressure then starts to climb and when it gets to 43psi again, the compressor kicks on.

I suspect I'm low on R134a, which is why I got into this in the first place. I hooked up a can to recharge it, but with the clutch only cycling on for a second or so, it doesn't seem to be taking in any coolant - though the can gets mighty cold.

Also, with the engine off, the pressure at the low side is 45psi constant.

If I have to "jump" the low pressure switch, I need to know where it is and how to do this.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Well you didnt say what you are driving or what year, but most cycling switches are mounted on the accumulator.

That would help wouldn't it... 1999 F-150 4.6

It's obvious to me where the low side coupling is, but the switch isn't quite so obvious. Above the accumulator is an electrical box of some sort, do I need to remove that to access the switch?

Well you need to move the wiring out of the way but you shouldnt have to move the box itself. If it has a cover it may need to be removed to see it better. It could have been placed in an easier to access placement for sure.
