Hello
how do you tell when the shocks need replacing on my expy?? It doesnt bounce, or any thing like that ,no sign of leakage , i have 112,000 miles on it , dont know if they are original or not, just seems to ride rough, I just put new tires on about 3000 miles ago (bridgestone dueler Revos) love them so far. My sway bar links all look good . I see most are recommending Bilsteins? Any particular model? What about Ranchos? RSX-model Or edelbrok shocks? Let me know your experiances , And what made these expys ride smoother
Aside from leaking/looseness, the best way to tell if a shock is shot is to jump up and down on the rear bumper and see if the truck continues to bounce excessively...you mention yours doesn't.
I don't think any of the three shocks you mention will "smooth" out your ride. Each of the three are more performance oriented and will most likely harshen the ride a bit. There's definitely a trade-off when it comes to comfort and performance.
I'm one of those that recommended Bilsteins, and I still do. Look for irregular tire wear to see if shocks are worn. The OEM shocks are bouncy anyway even new. Great choice of tires, their my favorites I'll be getting them again, when I replace the junky tires I have now. Duelers are great.
Bilsteins did not change the ride of my vehicle in any negative way. I have over 90K miles on the rear set and they are still perfect.
I would recommend your changing shocks if you can get either end of your truck to bounce up more than once after you let go of rocking it side to side or either end.
