Finally got my 2" rough country leveling kit today, its the add a leaf system,, Any tips on the install? Seems easy enough to me, but thought i would ask ya'll just in case i am missing anything? is it possible to just break the U bolts, and center bolt and slide them in or do you have to loosen the track bar and all that too? This just looks way to easy..!!!
For me the hardest part was getting the truck up high enough for the suspension to drop. That's a job in itself. I had no air tools as well and some of those bolts are tight as he!!. I thought those kits came with new u-bolts to use. Well be careful and take your time. It will look great when your done!!!
Well i have all the air tools, and about 4 good floor jacks, if i can find them all..!! Like i said earlier it just looks way to easy, i must be missing something.
I knew I saved these for a reason!!!Yeti gave me the torque specs and I do not recall who gave me the rest (sorry!) but they were excellent instructions. I hope it helps you also. This was for a 2" Tuff Country add-a-leaf for the rear of my F250.
Install
You have to jack the truck up by the axle and place jackstands or cribbing under the frame of the rear of the truck.Next remove the rear tires. with the jack still under the axle (one side at a time) remove the u-bolts, lower the axle enough to remove the factory block, open the factory spring clamps (around the spring) then place two C-clamps on each end of the springs without clamping the thick factory spring on the bottom and remove the center bolt, most I have done break. Then release your c-clamps and take apart the spring pac (you may have to lower the axle more) and then put your add a leaf in the location where it will follow the factory pattern of short to long. you will see once you start. begin reinstall by putting the new center bolt through the pac dont tighten it other than by hand yet reclamp your c clamps good and tight now tighten the center bolt dont over tighten or the soft nut will strip. put your block back on the axle jack it back up to the springs put u bolts on torque to spec and you should be done one side repeat for other side. You should be able to bend the spring clamp back around the springs. remember to retorque after 100 miles. It is a pretty easy installation especially with an air impact and an assistant to put the spring pac back together. I have done each side before alone in about 25 minutes.
Torque Specs
Lugs 155 Lb/ft , Nuts for Ubolts 185Lb/ft, Shock nuts 76Lb/ft, should be a pretty easy install, might want to have a helper and just be careful.
Well tomorrow was to be the day,, my only day off this week,, but looks like the family already has plans for me,, guess it'll have to wait a few more days,, At least the springs are in the garage anyway,,, Appreciate all the help guys,, should be very simple if i can just find the time.!!
You gotta love when things get planned for you. Especially when you find out at the last minute, its like where are you going. aaahh, to work on my truck in the garage. your not working on your truck today you have to blaa blaa bllaa , then blaa blaa blaa.
mrbass...i put that exact same kit on my truck...it is really easy but you'll want to have some one to help you balance the axle and such...when i got mine done, the front was higher than the rear so i put 2" blocks and a tuff country add-a-leaf in the back...rides really nice...looks good to...i like the truck to be slightly higher in the rear end than in the front...when you get that put in you'll have to correct your steering whel tho b/c it will be straight up and down instead of across...not a hard thing tho...u can adjust that by loosening the nuts and turning the turnbuckle that is on the arm coming from the pitman arm(from the steering gearbox)...that did the trick for me...good luck and hope you like it
