Did you happen to look at the flex plate as BB suggested? Well its good to know you have the pan off.... And I was hoping with that name.... your are a lady!! LOL! Russ
Well guys, ... looks like you have succesfully got a girl to drop her pan :P . Couldnt you just have a mech stop by...look at the engine for you?
She had 2 mechanics look at it, got conflicting answers. I think she's getting better information from people who haven't even seen it...FOR FREE.
Welcome to the forum ladyrebecca, there are a lot of straight shooters here. If you're not certain about what your "mechanics" are recommending, run it past us. I'll help keep them honest!
You go Girl!
I seriously dought one of the 2 was a mechanic.....if she called a ford shop, a mechanic could stop by, maybe on his way home. She just wants to identify the engine ... not get a coarse on how to tear her engine down.

I havent seen any replies from you doing a motor ID....So what is it?
People who live in glass houses shouldnt cast stones!!!
I dont wont to start a FLAME here... But it seems to me..you should unplug
your keyboard for a bit and just read the boards...
Just hate to see someone go through alot of trouble when there could be a easier solution then taking her engine apart. The obvious has been said about identifying the engine.
We've had this discussion many times here. That's probably why Russ is a little excited. Basically with these FE motors, it's difficult to tell what you got with external ID numbers. It's easy to determine if you have an FE. But figuring out the actual engine displacement is a nother story. It really comes down to the crank ID. There are other ways to get an idea from the outside like BB mentioned. But these old trucks have typically seen rebuilds and replacements etc.
It's also hard to find a decent mechanic that knows anything about these FE motors. You'll find the guys here to be quite knowledgeable by comparison.
