Premium Extended Service ESP
It is a relatively small problem...shudder at 1mph. Truck runs smoothe at a stop, and above 1mph, but it shakes on the approach to every stop sign. They tried everything including conference calls to the engineers, changing the driveshaft, hanging weights (not sure where) but no luck.
I asked for a new truck, but there is no more 03 Lariat stock, and they were unwilling to upgrade me to an 04 at same price.
I am not sure if this problem will will eventually get worse, stay the same or go away as the vehicle breaks in. (only 6000 km on it now)
They offered me a 7year, 150,000km, 0 deductible ESP warranty if I keep the truck.
From the brochure, it seems like an extension of the normal 3year warranty, plus free towing and free loaner vehicle. Value is over $3,000.00 Canadian.
Not much response to my post describing the problem, so I assume no one else has encountered it.
Comments appreciated...is the ESP for free a good deal, and good compromise at this point?
What would you do? I paid for a new truck, and I got one that shudders.
Sometimes things like that are perfectly normal and wont cause any problems.
If you try another one and it's not the same then yes you might have a problem.
Getting ESP for free sounds like a great deal. In 7 years the problem will either get bad enough that they can figure it out or will not get worse which would prove it isn't a problem after all.
They have acknowledged there is a problem simply by keeping my truck 4 weeks and sending me off in a loaner while they experimented. Although I thought this was a fuel mixture problem, they tried an onboard laptop plugged into the port, and they said everything in the fuel/mixture system was fine. So, they moved on to the drive train and even tried a new drive shaft. Still shudders, but only at 1mph, regardless of gearshift position, and in forward AND reverse.
What choice do I have besides taking the 7 year warranty? I like the truck, and prefer it to the '04 they loaned me. I normally keep a vehicle less than 7 years, and this essentially means NO repair bills, except brakes, tires, muffler etc. Can I go wrong here?
This is my first experience with the 5.4L, and so far, othe than this defect it performs fine.

We've got a 2001 F-150 XLT 4 X 4 SuperCrew, and a 2002 F-150 4 X 4 SuperCrew King Ranch, both with 5.4's. I just drove both of them, and had no experience like you described.
