Fuel/water Filter Replacement

Need technical assitance to replace the fuel / water separator on 2000 X 7.3 PSD. I tried to separate the filter from the lid but, will not go. The filter has a basket on the outer rim of the filter and no matter how much yank I do, the fuel/water filter will not budge. I do not want to pry off the filter from the lid for the fear of I might bust the lid also. Any techniques you guys want to pass along this way?

It may be an aftermarket filter which has the cap attached to the old filter. Either buy a filter with the lid or buy a lid for the fuel bowl so you can use the plain filters.
