I have an '04 F-250 SD, at 1600 miles it began to stall, it feels like your foot has slipped off the gas pedal. I took it to the dealer after it also became hard to start and I nearly jack-knifed it while pulling travel trailer, down hill around a curve, and it stalled. After 3 days at the dealer they, of course, found nothing wrong. They charged me $2.40 a gallon for fuel and drove most of it out. I heard a rumor that an after market chip will fix it. So should I install aftermarket parts and void warranty or wait them out to find the problem? I hear this is becoming a common "customer concern" for the 6.0l.
Take it back to a good dealer, mine did the same thing, when it stalls does the glow plug light come on? Have them check the wire harness going to the FICM. There is a long bolt comming out from the valve cover and the wire harness going to the FICM rubs on it and shorts out causing the truck to die.
Mine sis this and they rerouted the wire harness, no other problems.
Some time ago I noticed a missing at 65-70 on the interstate then it stalled on me twice making a turn, once to the left and once to the right. It was also leaking oil which it had never done. On a hunch I checked the oil but the damn dipstick is useless if it is overfilled so I drained the oil, almost 5 gal (20 qts)! This was at 2500 mi on a early flash. I put in right amount but it was still addin fuel to the oil but it quit missing and did not cut out on any turns. I had the truck flashed and injectors checked (OK) in April and installed the 65 hp Preditor tune and drained and refilled the oil but it was about a pint over. It quit leaking. I towed to Ky last week and it was leakin a little on the first of the trip but once it leaked out the extra pint it quit leaking. It was a 1700 mi tow with a 24 ft car trailer with a car~5500 lbs. Kept it at 65-67 going up with 10-11 mpg. Towed at 70 for a while on the way back and the mileage dropped to 9.
If you have a truck stall on a turn without cause check the oil level. I think once the oil gets to some level you get crank interference with the oil that causes the idle to drop too low and stall.
It is very difficult to get a reading on the oil dipstick!! The only way I could tell just how over full was to drain the oil and measure it.
I have a 2004 f250 crew cab with 8000 miles on it. I am having the same problem with the stall. While I am driving if feels like my foot slips off the pedal. It will stall, and then rev back up. Ford has re-programmed it and it still does this. Of course it will not act up when I let the mechanic drive it. Does anyone know the cause of this?
Wiring Harness Chafing:
Some 03/04 trucks with the 6.0 may exhibit a crank/no start, rough running, misfire, buck/jerk or lack of power. This may be due to the FICM harness chafing on a valve cover stud near the FICM. Other potential locations for chafing are where the harness routes past the EBP sensor, the belt idler on the driver side of the engine, the glow plug control module bracket on the passenger side of the engine, and the accelerator pedal sensor wires at the steering column (adjustable pedals only). Reroute and repair the harness as necessary. Broadcast Message 0918/1374.
Mine has stalled/jerked twice on me -- both on boat trips to Lake Mead. Scared the crap outta me, but the truck continued to run. I have about 9500 miles on it.. Makes me think twice about using it for trips..
Like I said on another post, when I read posts about stalls, etc. and saw the bulletin, I bought a few feet of wire loom and added wire loom and tape to the places on the wire harness that looked problematic. I figure it was cheap insurance and I like to tinker.
I am not going to wait for it to break down or stall before I do something about it. I check my oil each fillup, rotate tires and check the pressure, drain my fuel/water separator at least once a month and do all the scheduled maintenance.
