i have not heard of a factory adjustable waste gate (as far as blow off pressure) on a PSD. the bar from the wastgate to the valve is threaded and is adjustable, maybe that is what he is thinking of
i just thought of something else, i am not sure a '96 even has a waste gate, i know some of the early PSD's did not have them, i will say i do not know the early ones well, maybe someone else will chime in
cleatus12r is right, only the 1999+ PSDs have a wastegate. We also have a turbo wheel equivelant to the "wicked wheel" that people mod their 1999+ engines with. From all that I've heard, the turbo in the early trucks is actually better.
The turbo in the 95-98 powerstrokes SUCKS!!!! I have one. I don't believe in running a diesel at the RPM required to make any sizeable amount of boost with the non-wastegated models. Not to sound like a jerk.....Just my $.02
cleatus12r, how is a wastegate helpful? It is not a performance enhancing device but a protection device. Do you have an aftermarket air intake? Adding the Tymar made a night and day difference. The stock airbox in my 1997 was VERY restrictive, and so was the turbo downpipe. IMO, those are the problems, not the stock turbo.
I believe that adjustments to the threaded end allows the w.g. to open or close at different amounts of boost.
I think it's to adjust free play in the actuating rod. The actuator is going to push the rod out at the same amount of boost regardless of how long or short the rod is.

Oh yeah, and I've got a 3 inch downpipe and dual 3 inch pipes. Also Tymar intake. But the fact still remains that without the wastegated turbo, a 95-98 PSD will not make a decent amount of boost at low (below 1800) RPM.

Mine spools up pretty quick compared to my parents 2001.
Does the banks quick turbo make a big diffrence or is it a waste of dough?
i read an artical on line a little while back about a guy that did an extensive test on the banks turbo housing and impeller, he tried it with just the housing ,just the impeller, with both...etc. and he concluded that it would take care of the turbo surge problem but the truck took longer to spool up and did not make as much boost. let me look around i will try to find it and put in the link.
