I have a 1994 Olds Regency '98 with a 3.8 liter engine. It is a great running car, but when I turn on the a/c sometimes I can detect a slight surge every few seconds. Under acceleration it is much worse, and it feels like you are pressing the gas on and off, but at highway speeds you can almost hear it more than feel it. Does this have anything to do with a bad I.A.C. motor, or is it a switch that is DIRECTLY related to the A/C?
If this should be somewhere else please let me know.
I definitely know that AC creates the load on the engine, but I've had about 10 cars and none of them did the surge every second or so thing that this one is doing. Yes, the RPM would slightly drop and you could notice the load increase on the engine, but going down the interstate you can detect the pulsing.
Do you think it could be low of 134 causing the compressor to kick on and off? I can hear it cycling, but it's not every second or two...it seems like a normal cycling interval to me.
