Howdy all,
Thought i would try to tap a source that might be helpful in my diagnosis. We have a big issue with the headlights on this 93 Escort Wagon. The head lights work but pop a fuse shortly after installed (Not right away though) The motor pulls down bad and sometimes it stalls it. The turn singles do not work unless the headlights are on, and i have found a toasted wire right by the HL relay. (Brown and red stripe i think) We replaced the alt on the side of the road but it didn’t do anything to fix the issue. My guess is a bad ground somewhere. I know this is probably be a complex prob and I am not looking for a magic fix! BUT i am wondering if this is a prob that any have had in the past and have any pointers for me.....since i don’t have a wiring diagram as of yet!!!! (Cant find one in this dang town! ) I like the minds on this site than most....and i know there’re a few Ford techs out there some where! Thanks for the info in advance!
As the local escort knowledge guru, I have a few things to say. First, check all the fuses inside the car, and then in the black box under the hood. Then, make sure all your ground straps are good. There will be one from the engine to the tranny, and a couple more. I haven't worked on mine in a while. Then, inspect all the wiring to make sure that none of it is cut or damaged. If it is, fix the break in the wire. A DVOM and a Chiltons of Haynes are essential tools in tracing electrical problems. But check all your connections first, then start tracing wires.
Yup...what i figured....shop car...and still no manual in this town!!!!! I found a make shift wiring diagram on the net...but very basic. Thanks for the help! Still hunting!
