Inaccurate gauges
I have a 77 F150 Ranger XLT w/ 400/automatic w/ A/C. Occasionally, the temperature and fuel gauges show inaccurate readings. The temperature gauge will read full hot while the fuel guage will show a reading higher than the actual level in the tank. This comes and goes both when engine is cold and at operating temp. Both guages settle back to normal range at the same time. Any thoughts?

There is a special voltage regulator mounted on the back of the instrument panel. Coincedentally its called the instrument voltage regulator, or IVR. You need to pull the bezel. The headlight **** is removed via a pin on the headlight switch. Do a search on it for details in this forum. Remove the instrument panel. The IVR is a square silver box with connectors similar to a 9V battery. Remove and replace it. The IVR should cost less than $20.
