OK....heres the problem. Awhile ago, a Ford F-350 that has come into my possession had a body swap. This wouldn't be a problem, but someone put a '72 F-250 body on a '74 truck. I am using the originial wire harness out of a new '77 F-250 body i got. I connected the alternator, starter solenoid, etc. etc. I tryed to start the truck and I'm not even getting power to the dash. I have NO idea where to start... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
Check your grounds. And be careful. If you don't have a good ground, the engine will make its own with the first wire it finds, and that can spell fire -- it happened to me once.
For $400, you may want to consider going with a brand new harness from Painless, Ron Francis or Centech.
Unwrap the covering on the main harness from the large stud on starter relay & check for a burned up Fusible link.
That's the only part of the wiring that would prevent power from reaching the fusebox from the battery.
Not having a proper ground would cause this as well.
I would recommend either the shop manuals from this site or a Haynes books or something like that. They will include wiring manuals but also explain how to fix a fusible link. Of course, I'm sure we all assume you've checked the obvious: that the new battery is actually carrying a charge.
Basically, start from the battery and work your way to the fuse panel.
