Well I just restored my '53 F100 (had a 351C with edelbrock performer manifold and cam, MDS ignition etc.) The engine blew yesterday.
I am looking for another engine. 351C or a 400 if the parts are compatable. Does anyone know if the trans bolts on the bell housing are the same. My 351C was a 2V and my replacement engine will need the same head for my exhaust manifold to line up with.
Does anyone have any sources for locating a rebuild or a completed engine? I am open to suggestions.
You had better look for another 351C-2V or rebuild the one that you have. The 351M/400s have a big block bell housing bolt pattern. They also have a taller deck height, so your exhaust manifold will be too low, even though the heads are similar and your intake manifold won't fit either.
BTW the 351C-2V heads are better than the 351M/400 heads.
How bad is your engine?
If it were me, and my engine wasn't totally destroyed, I would find a local machine shop with a good rep and let them replace what need to be replaced and save what can be saved. I would look for a small shop that does race car motors, as well as local work.
Geez man how did you blow a 351C? run it a few months without oil?

best of luck to you, if possible jsut get taht motor decked and honed, along with the heads if need be and rebuild 351C is an expensive motor to rebuild
If it is a stock 4.0" bore, then you can save the block. 351C-2V heads might be available. 351M/400 heads will work, but there will be a performance loss.
There are some aftermarket heads available in both Cast Iron and Aluminum, but they are expensive. Aussie heads will fit, but the Compression Ratio may be too high.
BTW, I have a nice set of 351C-4V closed chamber heads that are looking for a new home. You would have to get a new intake manifold, and probably a set of headers.
OK, there isn't much difference between 351C-2V heads and 351M/400 heads, but the small loss of compression and additional exhaust restriction, might be worth paying a little more for a 2V head than a 351M/400 head in Classic Street Rod F100.
What about the D5ae-a2a Heads (77-later 351M/400 heads 74.5cc) Vs. Cleveland 2v heads 76.2cc?
The reason i ask is because this is what Is on my cleveland. Some one switched them out before i got it. I have just Finished the rebuild with .040 over bore (Was already .030 and had wear) Mild cam Weiand intake Edl. 750 Carb, Headers MSD Ing., Dist., and Wires ECT... and have not driven it yet but i hope They Perform OK, Was very upset when the machine shop Told me this.
