The Check Engine Light on means that there is a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) stored in the truck's PCM. You will have to get it scanned to see what code comes up so you know where to look.
To reset the light you can remove a battery terminal for 10 minutes.
If the ligth comes back then you have a problem that needs to be checked.
I pulled the cable for a while, and that seemed to do it. Hopefully it's a
cured condition, not to return. I'm beginning to think one of those scanners mght be worth the cash, since it's a trip to the Zone.
The reason I thought it was a miliage minder was because it came on at 30,000 miles exactly. My last van was an 85, and the light came on at 60,000, and when I brought it in they told me it was just a miliage reminder for the 60,000 mile service. That's what got me thinking it was just a reminder light.
thanks though I appreciate the effort on your part, and correctly too! Good to have guys like you on the forum.
