manual says 7500 under normal conditions, 5000 under severe. people here seem to do it at 3000 and have no idea why.

Alfa, do a search on oil change, get yourself a beer and munchies to settle down and read for a while.
You will get differing opinions on a lot of things but I think the consensus is to change the oil early at about 3000. I did it at 3800, 7500 and 11000 and it made for a nice clean break in.

that sounds reasonable
the dealer is telling me 1000 than every 3000 after that
but after the fiasco of buying this vehicle (don't want to get into to that right now) i don't trust the dealer anymore

Everything the dealer tells me I let go in one ear and go out the other. They told me that I needed to change it every three thousand miles or it would void my warranty and they also told me that using fully synthetic oil would not be any better for the engine than running their motorcraft partially synthetic. I asked them why then do they use a partially synthetic and they gave me attitude and said that is supposed to go into these engines if you don't want to use it then take it somewhere else. I change it myself now and have a fully synthetic oil in it.

The dealer told me I needed to change every 5000 at a minimum or it would void my warranty. This was the service advisor. I pulled out the manual and showed her it was 7500. Then she said Texas is considered severe duty so it must be 5000. BS. I was changing it anyway because it was new..
