1. Reconsider dad's advice. He's right.

2. Only take on SLOW competition so you'll seem fast.

3. If you mean top end speed, use lower ratio gears in the rear end.
If you mean launch speed, use higher ratio gears in the rear.

That long stroke in the 4.9 was made for torque, not blistering rpms. It's very hard to get around physics. I drove one for 176,000 miles and I can't even imagine it being what you would call FAST. But if your pockets are deep enuf, have a blast trying!

And if your still stubborn, consult with Cliffordperformance.com
They are the only ones I know of that deal with 6 cylinder performance.

smaller tires makes the rear gear ratio go up, quicker launches, bad at highway speed because of higher rpms.

i had my rearend gear ratio built up for higher top speed but it didn't really make that big of differnce i had headers custome buit. a new exhaust 2''1/2 single. and i put so called high performance fuel ingectores and a so called comp cam. still very moderate power was added for so much what seems wasted money.

You could bolt a jet turbine down in the bed of the truck, but no quick stops.

Or- Take dear old Dad's advice, you'll still find plenty to spend your money on.
