i,ve been dumping mony in after market parts for mt 1991 f-150 4.9 5speed.it still is not what i would consider FAST! my dad has been telling me to quit wasting my money and get a truck with a v-8 But like all good son's i will not liten or give in I WANT A FAST 4.9 please help
2. Only take on SLOW competition so you'll seem fast.
3. If you mean top end speed, use lower ratio gears in the rear end.
If you mean launch speed, use higher ratio gears in the rear.
That long stroke in the 4.9 was made for torque, not blistering rpms. It's very hard to get around physics. I drove one for 176,000 miles and I can't even imagine it being what you would call FAST. But if your pockets are deep enuf, have a blast trying!
i had my rearend gear ratio built up for higher top speed but it didn't really make that big of differnce i had headers custome buit. a new exhaust 2''1/2 single. and i put so called high performance fuel ingectores and a so called comp cam. still very moderate power was added for so much what seems wasted money.
