Firstly congratulations are in order. I just bought my first Ford diesel
However this being my first diesel of any kind, I'm ignorant on more than a couple of points.
I would really like to pick up a good service/maintnance reference specific to my truck so I can inform myself (rather than attempting to spam the good forum with a bunch of stupid questions).
Can someone recommend a good read?
I've only put 13 of the 270,000+kms and would like to get it on a maintnance schedual ASAP. I'd also like to have a plan of attack if she decides not to start this winter. The power band seems to be a complete depatrure from my 5.8L F-350 gasser. Can someone recomend some good shift points?
A good reading list or some informative internet links as well as any general tips/info would be well appreciated.
Thanks to all of the contributers on this board who have unknowingly been a great help already.
Thanx,
T.K.

Start out by picking up a copy of Haynes Diesel Techbook #10330. Most auto parts stores either have it or can get it - I think the price is US$12.95. It has more than 100 pages on the Navistar diesels and excellent fuel and electrical troubleshooting info (let's hope you never have engine problems, but if you do, 9 out of 10 will be fuel or electrical). If you don't have the Ford Diesel manual that came with the truck, get a copy at helm.com for about US$8.00. You might also get Haynes #36058 for the rest of the truck except the engine.
