Talking Which heads to use

Have the old 360 out and upgrading it to a 390. As for the heads, what would you guys recommend. Day to day driver but looking for some performance as well of course. Has a edel manifold and 600 CFM edel carb already. Also which ignition and what pistons / rings would be best? I know I ask a lot but hey, got to get the best bang for the buck and there isn't any replacement for you guy's experiences and opinions, both good or bad, lol. Thanks y'all

the best heads are either C8's or D2's, id do a mild port job on them and have fun.

This is hijacking a little but:
what do you by a "mild port job"?
Is this just port/gasket matching and smoothing the ports from casting flaws?

I'd use the heads off the 360, and have 'em cleaned up, valve guides checked and replaced as necessary, valve seats ground, valves ground and replaced as necessary, and hardened valve seats put in, again if necessary. Newer heads, like D2TE's and later, have hardened exhaust seats already there so you dont have to worry about it. If your heads are older than that, they need the hardened exhaust seats put in. Or you could go with edelbrock heads and not have to worry about it.

A good set of pistons is the TRW L2291's, if you can find 'em.
