I have a 1992 Explorer and I was told that it can get about 20 horsepower with a cat back flowmaster system. Does anyone know if it really makes a big differance on a 4 liter?
Magnaflow did some testing that showed they increased hp, flowmaster did not. do a search (upper right) on both and find out what everybody else thinks about each.
Where did you find the results of increase in horse power to the 4.0 liter engine? I have a 4.0 Liter 03 Ranger XLT level two and I can't find squat for actual results on horsepower on catback systems for my truck!
the testing was done by magnaflow in general, not specifically your truck. magnaflow mufflers flow straight thru, you can look down the hole and see it. flowmasters you can not. not sure where but i did read it, thats why i have magnaflow, google search, magnaflow, maybe even here, try search in upper right.
best i can give ya.
flowmasters web site makes a whole cat back system that was dynoed at 20 horsepower. My question is can you really notice a differance with 20 horsepower
you would notice 20 hp. but flowmaster will not give you 20 hp. i agree that magniflow will give you more power than flowmaster, because of the straight through design. magniflow is a better performance muffler by far. but i still don't think even a magniflow cat back (as good as they are) would give you a full 20 hp increase. thats a lot of exhust restriction in the stock exhust if it does.
it won't>>>period. maybe if your pushing 400hp it might, yes you can tell a difference, at least i think. i installed headers first with stock exhaust from the cat back. only after i put the cat back on did it seem to matter and maybe with both headers and cat back i got 15hp
