I have the early edition 99 F250 and this thing lags on the bottom. I have installed the Banks Stinger-Plus (what a waste of money) and an AFE intake system. I did all of this to help give it more power after I raised it six inches and installed 35 inch tires. The bigger tires really sucked up the power. It has the 3:73 gear set in it and with all of these mods it is still too slow. I sometimes pull a 24 foot enclosed race trailer for my quads and I wondered if a gear change would help or anything else? Any info would be appreciated because I am ready to give up. Thanks.
I had thought of gears before and another guy told me his brother did this and he hated it. He mentioned that the diesel liked to be lugged to build boost so I dropped it. I figured you guys would be the guru's.
I do have the guages and I also thought I should add that it had the XLE4 programming updated to the XLE5 program. Someone also mentioned taking it to a speedo shop and they can recalibrate the computer for the bigger tires and that would make it work better.
Obviously recalibration of the speedo isn't going to make it "work better," it's only going to give you an accurate reading of the speed. I think if you swapped to a 4.10 that would get you closer to the original stock ratio.
You might look into the "wicked wheel" compressor wheel. supposed to help low end alot. I hope to install mine this weekend, will post and let you know the difference.
I have the exact same model and early 99 year. I dont have it raised up but run 285-75-16 tires on it. I run a aftermarket intake and a superchips. What kind of exhaust do you run? As for the wicked wheel the early 99 already has a version of it in there. If you want to just replace it cause of bent or damaged blades then go with the WW. If you dont want the low end lose of power then dont go with the 4" downpipe. Im actually changing my 4" downpipe to a 3.5" early next week. SOmeone I know has the 3.5 DP and it works great for the low end torque and the spooling of the turbo.
