I am purchasing a 79 F150 Supercab for $1,000. The owner said the motor was rebuilt with 20 miles put on it. My grandfather looked it over and said it ran ruff but it was just started after four days of sitting and he didnt stay around to hear it warm up (351m). I am going to have to drive it 950 miles to get it home. I wanted some checklist suggestions before leaving. See pics in gallery of the truck and let me know if its worth it. I have a bed for it. Power train was rebuilt. Thanks again.
Looks pretty good for $1000. As long as the buyer and seller are happy, can't ask for much more.
About all you can do is look over all the hose, check the condition of the ignition, and keep an eye on the fluids during the trip. Driving it around a little to get to know the truck and check how everything is operating before hitting the open road might help. Better to find a problem in/near a town than the middle of no where.
Looks like a good deal for $1000. If I was to jump in a take a trip like that I'd check over the fluids, belts, hoses, tires, lights, brakes and steering. You would want to take along a spare tire (be sure you have useable jack and lug wrench), extra coolant, oil, trans fluid, some tools, duct tape and wire. I've learned that if you are prepared for anything - then nothing will happen.
