Hmm...I had some differences with the guy, but all of his work seems solid and he builds some of the biggest/fastest motors in the area. Don Allen Jr., the owner of MachineWorks, did a pretty nice job on my motor. The machining isn't cheap, but from what I have seen, it's quality. I hope to fire the beast up for the first time in about a week - I'll let you know how it goes.
He is located on Stone avenue just south of Grant. West side of the road, just after the Wildcat house and just before Cottman's transmission.
...I'm not sure if you're in Tucson, Phoenix, or whatever, but this fellow is in Tucson.
I don't know that it's a good thing, but tell him "Patrick with the 390" sent ya. ; )

And, if I may be so bold, I would suggest you turn that baddie into a 390. He'll be able to track down a crank and rods - that's all you'll need.

Thanks Pat
By the by, I live in NW Tucson, up by Ina and Thornydale. Got the beast down and yes, I am going to a 390. Great forum here.

We're practically neighbors. I'm at Ina and La Cholla.

What kind of truck do you have again?

'68 F100, C6, 360 (for now)
Got it for 500 bucks and it ran. Decided to rebuild it as a driver with decent performance. Probably give it to my older boy as a wedding present when it is done. Been fun so far but I am worried about boring the block, might just look for a 390 to build rather then take a chance on this one. Needs to go .060 over and most on here don't think that is a good idea.

To my knowledge, once you get over .030, you can run into cooling problems. Given our unforgiving climate, I wouldn't do it unless you were ready for some headaches/ready to throw down for some big radiator/fan action. Anyway, it shouldn't be too bad to find a 360/390 block - I'll keep my eyes open.

Got me a 390 from a local yard for a couple hundred. Took it apart this evening and the block has NOT been bored, the crank looks good so far and the rods are all good. I will finish the teardown tomorrow and mic everything. Hope it all still look sas good as it does right now..

I have a 428 .060 over. Runs cold with the Air Conditioning on. I have not had any overheating problems even in the summer in Phoenix.

What are you running for radiator, water pump heades intakes?
My 390 is 0.040 over, iron heads, iron intake, iron water pump, stock radiator, and Ford 7 blade fan, it does not like 110*F at all... that is with no a/c and throwing it in 'n' at lights.

Maybe I have just been very lucky. I have iron heads and a new stock radiator. Stock fan and shroud. With an RPM Performer Intake. I had the same motor in a TBird with stock radiator (Roughly half the size) and stock 4bbl iron intake, The TBird always ran hot. The water passages in the block are very clean. I have heard this helps?

wish i could be so lucky.
my block was gone thru 6000 miles ago... hot tanked, align honed, decked, bored bla bla bla...
It sure does not like heat.
I'll admitt, the rad looks good on the outside, but is an unknown otherwise.

Clean LX,

My limited experience with FEs, (I currently own two) is that a radiator can make all the difference. For roughly $160 you can keep your radiator tanks and have a high efficiency 3 or 4 row radiator core installed. I think this will help.
