Injectors usually don't go bad all of a sudden and caused your engine to backfire. I'm quite certain you have crossed your spark plug wires. Check them three or four times, and then check them some more. Check them with your wife, check them with your friend, and then check them with your neighbors. The last time my brother had his engine rebuilt, the thing backfired and had blue smoke coming out just like what you described. My two brothers and I, with six eyes and three pairs of glasses, kept coming up with the conclusion that the wires were fine. We finally found out that two of the wires were crossed, but that's after a couple of hours. Those things can be hard to see, especially with no room under the hood.

A failed injector will usually shut down a cylinder, making the engine run rough. They don't usually fail with the injector stuck open.
Are there any check engine lights or codes from the EEC? It sounds like some sensor might be failing.
