I had a bad night Saturday I tried to make a hood ornament out of a good sized deer. It didn't come out so good(the deer was killed instantly, serves him right) It mashed my bumper, head light trim, turn light, the piece of metal that goes above the bumper, the grill might be salvaged it only manage to break 1 clip. Amazingly though it did not manage to bend any other sheet metal. I have to get the driver's side fender re-alined but it could have been worse. I am glad that I was in a ford because those styles have a lot of room between the grill and the radiator/air conditioner condersor, they were not even touched, I looked at a buddy's chevy and they have about 3 inches. So my word of advise is to keep your eyes on the road because even if you don't expect it those dang deer will find ya. I just happened to be talking to a friend and glanced at something they showed me and looked back in time to see that ornament was going to be off center o well. I learned my lesson.
I am a claims adjuster for a major insurance company, and you would not believe how many auto/deer accidents I see... and a large # of them are not autos hitting deer, but rather deer hitting the autos... Down here in the deep south we probably have more deer than people... I was riding down the road with my father a few months ago and we had a doe dive into the drivers side window...
So have you turned the deer into jerky or peperettes yet?
Glad no one got hurt.
There was a story in Thunder Bay about 2 years ago. Deer got hit by transport, deer flew through the air into opposing traffic, crashed into the windshield of the car and landed in the rear seat (on top of a child in a car seat). Some broken bones on the kid (could of been worse).
No I didn't turn the deer to meat, but a family in the area who loves deer and has quite a few mouths to feed was able to salvage a cooler full of meat. The rest was just to bloody and bruised.
Good news It is friday and my truck should be back on the road tonight. Luckily for me but unluckily for a fellow stroke owner an area junkyard had a rolled 96 stroke. I got everything I needed besides primer and a can of paint for a little over 300 bucks. The paint will be finished today and I will get to roll on tonight.
