I now change my oil at 3000 or a little before 3000 miles in my 2001 PSD, I do not realy pull much, mostly hall about 1500 or pull about 3000lbs, I would like any advice on changeing to synthetic oil and changing it every 5000. It might be a little much but I love my truck, the smell and sound remind me of when I was a child on the farm, I want to keep this truck to the 500,000 mile mark or at least as close as possible, thank you all for your replys in the past. Good luck with all the trucks out there.
I run with synthetic, and change every 10K and the oil is good to go further. I have done this since new, and have now 150k on the truck, with no apparent problems.

The oil on a powerstroke should stay clean for a long time being that they are very efficient, I would recommend Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic 5w-40. Then send your sample to blackstone labs after 5k, 15k, and you can keep going if the results are good. 5k for synthetic is a waste. If you don't pull hard and don't idle for long periods, your engine will outlast the truck.
You did say 5-W40 right? I am no expert, but if you put in 15-40 regular oil, why 5w-40 synth? Thank you for your reply, and yes I do believe that the motor will outlast the body, spot welds all over the place and the door skins are not very well attached. I would love to have the truck for 15 years, at least 10. I keep it clean, lubed and every chance I get I take it easy on it, but when it is work time it has no problem, you can almost see it smile when you hook it up to a load. thanks again, I was just wondering about the weight of the oil.
The main goal of synthetic is to provide more benefits over regular mineral oil. The oil is designed to be thin when cold and still be plenty thick when fully warmed up. This cannot be done with conventional oil without giving up other important qualities.
