Knock Sensor??

While shopping for a motor for my '89 E150 I came across a reference to a knock sensor. Do I have one on my '89? Are the blocks different with a knock sensor? I know a pickup or bronco motor will work if I change the pan, but will a car engine work with a manifold change? How about a mustang block and heads? Will that work with the right pan and manifold? I plan to put a Comp cam in what ever I get so that is not a consideration. Here is the reference to the knock sensor.

OK, let me try this again. Do all 302 blocks have the threaded hole for the knock sensor at the top rear just behind the manifold?

No..
Only the Speed Density motors have that provision. Look for motor with a N motor vin code.

About two years ago we swapped a friends '89 302 with an '85 302. The '85 was a TBI that did not have the knock sensor. We left the original '89 knock sensor plugged into the connector and taped it to the A/C line to keep it from bouncing. This worked out great in this case but if the tune was off and the motor pinged, the computer wouldn't be able to compensate because the knock sensor was useless. I guess we just got lucky.

Thank you. I was thinking maybe the other blocks used that hole for something else, but I guess not. So it has to be a N code motor or the knock sensor has to be rigged. I wonder if you could epoxy it to the block and still have it work.

Actually, you can do like we did. Drill a hole, tap it, and install the sensor.

So if I am willing to drill the block for the sensor and install a correct cam than can I use any stock 302 block and heads with my speed density injection? Is that a correct statement or are thier certain things I should stay away from.
