Hey,
My fuel pump grew louder and louder, then one day it died. I forked out the $150 for the new one, and after plenty of frustration got it in. It works fine and was quiet as could be. Just now tonight I decided to make a late run the the store, and as I turned the key, I heard the familiar weeeee-uuuuuu of the fuel pump starting up. This sound had disappeared when the new pump was put in. So I walked behind the truck and can hear the pump running again, not as loud as when the old one failed, maybe 50%, but thats how it started last time.
Should I be freaking out here or what???? There's no way I'll be sleeping tonight. Let me know what you think, or have experienced.
thanks
It's normal for the pumps to make noise, some are just louder than others. Remember to keep at least 1/4 tank of gas and not run it empty, which will overwork the pump.
Another little suggestion. Locate the fuel pump relay and check the terminals for any signs of corrosion. A poor connection due to corrosion could cause the motor to pull higher amps, run a little harder and warmer, and shorten the life of the pump.
