Upholstery
Can anyone guide me to a good source for OEM-style bench seat upholstery? My '90 XLT Lariat really needs at least the seat bottom re-covered. The cloth is simply worn thin and has already split on the driver's side. I'm quite content with the color, style, fabric and comfort level of the factory seat with center fold-down armrest.
Other trucks I've had in the past I'd just put a seat cover over it, but I've never seen one that I think would look good in this truck.
Anyone ???

I guess our seats are very similar. I was just quoted 350 bucks to recover the bench seat in my 92 xlt. That price quote came from my local auto re-upholsterer. I had the seats on my old ( and sold)mustang done by them and they did an OK job, however, the fabric and quality that you get from the Ford Factory are hard to beat. Before you hire an upholsterer make sure you know they can do a high quality job, anything less wouldn't be acceptable.

My local auto upholstery shop thinks $500-$600 would probably be the cost for a vinyl double-pleat recover of the bench seat in my '66 F250. I've been looking at semi-custom seat covers by www.automotiveinteriors.com. The pictures look good. I have been hoping someone who's experienced their product would write about it on this forum. Years ago, I did my own '56 Ford pickup bench seat using a Singer treadle sewing machine. It turned out fine. Like a lot of endeavors, a little practice will get your skills to an "acceptable" point.
