Perchance did you get the guy's name and address. I hate to spend $200.00 for a 'NEW" one when a USED one would suit my purposes, but I could file his contact info away in case I can't find one worse/cheaper...
Maybe if I had 'fenders money, but up here in the Ottawa Valley, we ain't quite so prosperus.......
Thanks Buddy,
No I didn't, I didn't like the way he talked, he was a bigger Butthead than me. Nobody should have to deal with that.
I've got some feelers (whiskers) out for the part.

Your negotiating tactics must not be good as mine. When you get a job someday. Make sure you follow my lead. Insist on free food, clothes and all expense paid vacations like I did. Do you have any idea how much a 12 month vacation to the Holy lands woulda cost me? I'm saving a small fortune. I can spend all the vacation money I'm saving on the truck. Except I have to subtract some out first cause my wife says we have to pay the pool boy she's gonna hire. (Is that a bad thing cause we don't actually have a pool? Is he gonna mow the lawn and wax the '53 or will he be too busy? Will we still need him when I come back?)
I almost think I got this truck stuff ciphered out like Niolon.
'fenders
we're likely talking about the same truck. Jim Richmond built the truck featured about a year or two ago in at least of the (two) magazines. I beleive he mentioned that he had bought the grill at a swap meet/car show (possibly somewhere in Calif.) and that he discovered the grill had been welded up about an inch off center....and he had to fix it.
I've looked at adapting a few different grills and personally feel this treatment (as seen on Jim's truck) is the most complimentary to the overall design of the truck. (admittedly, its all a matter of taste....but then, mine has always been impecable...as witnessed by the company I keep
)I think 99% of us can at least agree that the 54 stock grill is one of the uglist ever designed by man......

Later,

Fergie, i agree the '54 grille looks like an overweight goofy vampire, and despite the fact that I'm building my birthday truck...a '53 Merc M100.... the '55 grille is the supreme master of the effie universe!

...and I'm outa here and out the tyheback yard for some more prep work...I want to drive this truck this summer even if the outsieds are not compeltely finished pretty like!
Later,

I don't consider myself outspoken in many areas, but I just HAVE to get into this ugly grille thing...said it before and I'll say it again. The 54 grille IS the ugliest grille Ford ever made...on a truck that is, (the Edsel wins it hands down for a car!), and the 55 was the best looking. I think if I had a 54, I'd just run it without a grille if I couldn't find something to replace it with. A big old hole in the front would be preferable...

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Look at the nacelles and pylons on radial engined planes of the 40's and 50's... they show up on our '54 grilles... big powerful looking aerodynamic parts of prop planes. Early jet aircraft have similar bulky looking shapes... these shapes influenced automotive design in a big way.
As a professional artist with no small amount of that impeccable taste that Handsome Bob proclaims, I'm down with the notion that the '54 grille takes dead last in the four year span of relative beauty. Let me add though, that a certain artistic perversity makes ugly a rather cool thing to be driving 'til something else comes along to improve that big ole air inlet on my truck. Artistically. himmelberg
There were so many compound words in that disertation that I'm not sure I understand what you said. so let me just respond with -
Um, yah.....right!
Later,
P.S. - There actually is an uglier vehicle (the entire vehicle was on par with the 54 grill) that owned (with pride) for approx. 5 yrs. I'll send you a picture of it and you tell me. Guess I'm kinda a magnet for them. Come to think of it, you should have seen my first fiance....
My first wife had a rather ugly disposition, which put her other attributes in a bad light. She must have been somewhat good looking as she gave me two beautiful daughters.
I haven't any pictures of my first wife to send you, but would like to see your ugly vehicle pic. thanks. himmelberg
There's been some good shots in this thread but your's was the lowest. That really hurt.
Peter,
I don't think we should start posting pictures of our EXs in this forum. I'm sure some of them probably look a little like F1s but it wouldn't be in strict adherence to the rules - which we all so carefully observe.
Back in the day when sex was really up there on my list priorities, I ended with a few dogs myself.....but I digress.....
That doodlebug sounds worse than my Babemobile, I must say......

"Guess I'm kinda a magnet for them"
Then came the picture, and it does say a thousand words
No matter what Ferggy ends up for a grill, there will still be the artistic perversity behind the wheel.
