Uphill vs. downhill cold start problem

Well, I clamped the vent line off and parked on a pretty good hill. The next morning when I started it, it coughed a time or two and then was fuel starved for 10 seconds or so of cranking...
I put a C clamp on the vent line and cranked it down enough to insure blockage.
Any other ideas?

when ive seen this problem in the Int'ls ive installed a check valve from a Series 60 Detroit (cylinder head fuel return check valve) on the fuel return line and corrected that problem 100% of the time. I dont know if this would work for you Ford guys.

I had the same problem with my 85 6.9 ats turbo. My fuel starving was only when the tank I was running on was lower than 1/4 full. If I switched to my other tank which was more than 1/4 full- no problem. I was told by someone on this forum that the factory put a small hole in the bottom section of the fuel pickup tube(both tanks) and this allows the fuel to bleed back somewhat when the front of the truck is high and the tank is low on fuel. why a hole in the pickup tube? anybodys guess. I now have a 93 7.3 turbo and it doesn't have that problem or maybe its because I always keep my tanks more than 1/4 full now.
