Where there's smoke...

I have an 03 F-150 ext cab 2wd with the 4.6L V8. At only 12,000 miles, I am seeing puffs of white smoke come out of the exhaust when I start the truck and/or when I rev the engine. There has not been a noticable drop in oil levels. I have put a Gibson swept side cat back on as well as a Volant air intake and filter. My first thought was that I was sucking excess oil off of the filter, but the engine continues to blow smoke with the stock intake and filter back on it.

I am definitely on my way to the dealer to see what's up, but I thought I'd ask here as well. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Alex

White smoke indicates a water issue not oil burning. I would check radiator level and check it often. Could be condensation in the exhaust system or maybe a leak in one of your heads???..

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check coolant today. Obviously a leaky head or head gasket would be a problem. Is condensation in the exhaust a problem? or is it normal/expected?

Condensation as in drippage from the tail-pipe is nothing to worry about. He's talking about burning coolant from the block. Not the ocassional drip.

I went out with a buddy and looked at lunch today. The coolant levels are fine, and the oil looks good. When my friend revved the engine, it was blowing water out. If you put your hand in front of the exhaust, it gets wet. Smells clean, not oily or sooty. It definitely looks like just some condensation in the tailpipe. Seems like an awful lot of water coming out, though...
