I've seen that Stanadyne makes a diesel fuel conditioner and they say it does the following -- anyone try it or something like it and have good results?
Diesel Fuel Conditioner restores power and fuel economy to your diesel. Clean and lubricate your diesel fuel system while curing starting problems. Adds lubricity and fights rust and corrosion. Uses no alcohol yet removes water from system. Eliminates cold weather fuel mixes. Reduces smoke and emissions
I first started running diesel fuel additives in the Kubota diesel engine in my Bobcat. I was primarily concerned with adding lubricity back to the fuel system that the #1 winter fuel was lacking. I also wanted to gain back some of the power I lost with the #1 winter fuel. I tried Power Service's Diesel Fuel Conditioner with Cetane Boost. This worked well. It seemed to have more power (was less likely to stall when pushing big snow piles) and actually seems to have a quieter idle.
I had been running fuel treated with Schaffer's Diesel Treat 2000 (this was the premium fuel sold at the pump) in my new truck until the last fill-up. Since this is all I've ran through the truck to this point, I did not see any changes. On the last tank, I mixed my own fuel with Power Service's Diesel Kleen mixed to the max ratio for a 6 Cetane boost. The idle of the truck seems to be quieter now and power seems about the same. I plan on running 2 tankfuls of Diesel Kleen treated fuel and watch the fuel mileage numbers with this conditioner. I bought a bottle of Stanadyne Performance Formula to try after that. The truck supply center that I bought the Stanadyne from has been really impressed with the results they see from it and they like the fact that it is made by a fuel injection pump company.
BTW, the Power Service products were adding about $0.05 per gallon at max treatment and the Stanadyne, when bought in bulk, added about $0.07 per gallon. These costs were the best I could purchase the products at here in Alaska, you may be able to find it cheaper.
YES THEY DO !
One by-product that I really liked is the quieter engine already mentioned...
it really surprised me how much quieter the idle AND the Under -acceleration noise was!
try it once you're used to the sound of your engine...
I could go into the whys and all, but it just works !
Need to find a bulk place to get the power service...
I use it every tank. On my last oil analysis, Blackstone said:
You can see your engine maturing in wear as it passes the 10,000-mile mark. The potassium
and sodium, which were factory leftovers, are washing out, just like they’re supposed to. Wear looks
good. We didn't find any fuel in this oil sample, so it looks like you've got a 6.0L engine with good
injectors! Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use and blow-by) were low at 0.3%, showing good oil
filtration and complete combustion. No moisture or coolant was present in the oil. Looks like a nice
engine! No problems found.
I use the Stanadyne Performance Formula in every tank and fill the fuel bowl with Lubricity Formula when I change the fuel filter. I pays for itself with the slight increase in fuel mileage and makes your truck run smoother and quieter. Stanadyne makes good stuff and I would recommend it to anyone.
I just noticed WalMart carries the power service. It appeared they had 2 different types. One boasted a 6 cetane boost, the other was 3, I think. The 3 cetane boost came in a gallon. FWIW.
The grey bottle is the best for smooth engine firing and performance and MILEAGE !
I aksed them for bulk or gallons and they couldn't find it on the 6 cetane booster, so I go a quart of the 6 and a gallon of the white bottled 3 cetane booster...

Need to write the manufacturer ...
The Power Service Diesel Kleen comes in a silver bottle. I buy the 96 oz. bottle (0.75 gallon) for $10.47. This will treat 300 gallons at +3 cetane or 150 gallons at +6 cetane. I found the best price through my local Bobcat dealer. You might check heavy equipment or big truck shops for availablity in larger containers. The Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement with Cetane Boost (white bottle) in a 96 oz. bottle offers +2 cetane for 300 gallons of fuel or +4 cetane in 150 gallons of fuel. The white bottle has a little less cetane boost, but offers great anti-gel properties and is what I use in the winter time. Visit Power Services website for more info (www.powerservice.com) because the benefits of each product differ.
The numbers I posted originally for my cost per gallon of treatment were a little off. With the Power Service Diesel Kleen at 96 oz. ($10.47) per 150 gallons (6 cetane boost mix), the cost per gallon is $0.07. With the Stanadyne Performance Formula at 64 oz. ($22.00) per 240 gallons of fuel (5 cetane boost mix), the cost per gallon is $0.09. I could buy 5 gallons of Stanadyne for $185.00 ($18.50 / 64 oz.) and cut the cost to $0.08 / gallon, but I would have enough to treat 2400 gallons!!!
