My '94 3.0L has started to "serge" on a clod start. It will start fine and idle ok for a second or two, Then it drops down to almost a stall, then back up to normal and so on. It will usally go away after it warms up a little or if you give it the slighest amount of gas for 30 seconds. If you just ignore it and drive off, it usally also stops (i.e. runs fine). The odd time it will stall, but restarts okay. with 304000Km, it is alittle tired, but runs fine.
Any ideas?
It's also known as the trottle control valve, And it seats on top of the intake with a solenoid attached to it. I don't beleve the Aerostars came with an air pump (well maybe a 2.3 L ?). You need to unbolt 2 screws and clean it up real good with an air intake cleaner to take all that gum out. Anyhow do a search for "Air bypass valve" or "trottle control valve" in this forum and you'll find plenty of posts on how to check and clean this baby.
