With any chip you should have at least an EGT(exhaust gas temp) gauge. You shouldn't let it get over 1250*F preturbo, sustained. Higher than that and you start melting expensive parts :-staun
If you're towing that much with an 80 HP chip a EGT gauge and a 4" exhaust system is mandatory. You're going to generate temps that are way too high without the exhaust.
Here's what I recommend, put a *good* gauge on it. Get a 54 HP chip, run it with your loads and see how the temps do. If all is well, get your chip reprogrammed for 78 HP (we do reprograms for free and other dealers may do so too).
