I have an 04 F250 6.0 PSD. Only motor mods are AFE proguard 7 air filter and turbo back 4 inch straight piped exhaust, no muff or cat. I keep getting the check engine light. It will come on for a variable amount of miles, sometimes 10 and sometimes 100, then it will go off. The truck runs great throughout the process. Im wondering if this light is due to my straightpiped exhaust or is there something else going on. Am I hurting the motor¿ The truck also has a 12 inch lift, 42 inch swampers, and 4.88 gears. P.S. Will one of the availlible flash tuners be able to tell what code its throwing¿ Thanks
Some auto stores can read your codes for you - we have Autozones hare in Texus that can...
but SBV45 gives you some good info there - with those type tires and lift you would probably LOVE the predator to help you turn those tires AND be able to read and clear your codes...
FYI, I had a straight piped 6-oh for about 6 months and never threw a code...
have a turbo back on now and only codes I've trown are the 603 KAM error and over boost every once in a RARE while... which are easily cleared with the predator.
When new I did get a check engine light once because my fuel cap was not tightened :-) Really --- had just got it back from service and so I called them and complained that they had broke something...
he suggested I try tightening the cap and that was it !)
Thanx for the replies. I think I'll take the truck into the dealer to check it out. i just don't want them to give me any b.s. that my exhaust is what made it throw a code. Hey jdadamsjr, when you got the overboost code did the check engine light come on then turn off by itself or did you have to clear it with a flash tuner? P.S. What is the best module /tuner in your guys' experience? Been looking at Edge w/attitude, Predator, Superchips, and Banks. Thanx
No, just cleared it with the predator... funny thing is the overboost code has rarely come on, but when it has, it's usually when we're idling around in traffic, NEVER when I've got it matted !!!!!
And you have asked the question that starts more fights than the "Which oil to use?" question :-)
I say use the one you like - find all the info you can and make your informed decision..
but in your information gathering ensure you have checked out the "source" of the info...
Even our best buds don't know EVERYTHING, (don't tell my Dad I said that :-)
but direct experience is the best teacher for these mods...
I just waited for the first programmer and got it...
never got the feeling the modules were there as far as shifting, etc...
(what good is 8 gazillion hp if you have to stop to let it shift ?)
so I got the Diablo Predator --- and couldn't be happier with it...
c the dyno chart in my gallery to see wat it measures at...
I was actually happy with the way it performed and how it improved the FUN of driving the Ex before the dyno, so the good numbers it put out were just gravy !
