OK new problem.
On the 88 bII there is a transaxle after the transmission on a 2 wd mine is making a godawful noise and now my drive gears are slipping and I have no reverse. Is this a trans problem or can the transaxle be causing the problem.I had the trans rebuilt about a year ago but I dont want to take it back if thats not the problem. So you senior guys if you have any suggestions I'm all ears.
It's called a transfer case (transaxle is a combination transmission/axle used for front wheel drive cars) Usually only associated with 4WD vehicles, there is a "dummy" transfer case in 2WD BII's that is pretty much a straight through shaft between the transmission and the driveshaft.
Don't know what would be wrong with it. Can you describe the noise?
It sounds like a bearing came out of a race and is rolling around banging into another part. I've changed the driveshaft with a used one I can't find a kit to rebuild the knuckles that ford called u-joints for that model bII. I did find a conversion that replaces these with regular u-joints but that cost 250.00 , and I don't know if that is my problem. i'm going to put it on stands tomorrow so I can listen from underneath, I'll keep an eye on this forum for more advise.

When I had to either rebuild or replace my driveshaft, $250 for a single cardan u-joint driveshaft was cheaper/easier/more effective than trying to rebuild one of the CV joints they put into that driveshaft. I know it seems like a lot, but from my experience and the experience of many others, it's usually the best way to "fix" that driveshaft.
